How will we live on the Moon? Artists have been fascinated by our nearest astronomical neighbour for centuries. In a new space age artists might influence design, architecture and astronaut training as well as sending objects, concepts and performances to the Moon. We could even see an artist-astronaut on the Moon.
Just three days away by rocket, it is likely that any long-term attempt to live beyond planet Earth will be on the Moon. Here six international artists bring their ideas of how we might respond to this new territory, which technically belongs to everyone. This exhibition imagines a Republic of the Moon: a ‘micronation’ for alternative visions of lunar life.
Curated by The Arts Catalyst, Republic of the Moon is a series of artist’s installations accompanied by a series of events, talks and workshops for cosmically curious artists, scientists and families.
